WESTPORT-ON-LAKE-CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. – The New Year marks a thrilling new journey for The Depot Theatre. The Adirondacks' professional theatre company will celebrate its 33rd year in operation with a new managing director, a new volunteer guild and four blockbuster shows for the 2012 season.
The Depot has launched a national search to replace outgoing managing director Chris Casquilho who is moving to Ogden, Utah with his family to work for Weber State University.
"We’ll miss Chris,” said George Davis, president of the Board. “His energy and levity added a warm, welcoming dimension to the Depot. Chris' pre-show banter is legendary!"
The Board of Trustees is approaching this leadership transition as an opportunity to realign and focus the Managing Director’s responsibilities according The Depot’s long range plan. In addition to professional theater operations, marketing and public relations, the ideal candidate will offer fundraising and development expertise.
“We’re looking for an individual who can help grow the operating budget in order to nurture our commitment to exploring new work alongside the canon of American Theatre,” explained Artistic Director Shami McCormick. Her involvement spans the history of The Depot which began operating in 1979, became a professional Actors’ Equity Association company in 1988, and joined the Theatre Communication Group in 2006. The annual operating budget recently ranges between $300,000 and $350,000, but McCormick is confident that there is room and demand for growth.
“There’s something quite magical about being behind the scenes in a live theatre atmosphere,” said Kim Rielly, board trustee. “And in 2012, we plan to ramp up our Volunteer Guild, with new opportunities for community members to take a real hands-on role in the operation of our hometown Theatre, and earn some great perks to go along with it!”
The 2012 season is designed to win your heart, tap your toe and tickle your funny-bone in unparalleled Depot style, with four great main stage shows including a Country/Blues Love Story, a fast-paced comedy, a 1950‘s musical with classic favorites, an outrageously funny story of five full-figured women racing to meet nearly impossible production deadlines, plus a full season’s worth of mid-week and special events.
Committed to promoting and providing exposure to the performing arts in the Adirondacks, the Depot Theatre invites all to take a journey without leaving the station.
