Choose your summer of fun and learning with everything from a one-day workshop to a summer-long experience. Participation by Essex County students is free, though donations greatly help offset the expenses of the program. Individual workshops may carry a modest materials fee. Applications are available at the Depot Theatre.
The Depot Theatre Apprentice Program: Ages 8-14
The Depot Theatre Apprentice Program is available to children 8-14. The Apprentice Program is a process oriented theatre experience that nurtures individual creativity and develops positive group dynamics and ensemble work. Self-expression and positive self-esteem are important goals of the Apprentice experience. Through a series of workshops and demonstrations, participants will develop basic acting skills that engage the mind, voice, and body; they will learn to focus their energy, work creatively, cooperatively and respectfully and have fun!
Each year, Depot Theatre Apprentices present a final project to the public.
Apprentices are often invited to attend main stage rehearsals and assist as ushers during performances.
Friday Workshop Series: Ages 8 and older
Sign-up for just one workshop or all! Learn about what goes into producing a play from the professionals who make it happen. Workshop subjects may include stage management, set and lighting design, costumes and make-up. Please note: Depot Theatre Apprentices will participate in this weekly workshop series to which others may attend with advance registration.
Please note that Apprentices may also be asked to participate in a performance celebrating Westport's Heritage Day Festival.
Creative Drama Play-lab: Ages 5-7
Imagination is your ticket to a world of theatre fun. Creative drama games and exercises will inspire a life-long relationship with Theatre while engaging students in a magical dramatic adventure.
